Item #36149

Winchester Model 1892 Rifle With Columbia, SC Markings

  • Maker: Winchester
  • Model: 1892
  • Caliber: .38

  • Description: Serial #401955, .38 WCF (.38-40), 24” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a 1907-made rifle that retains 80-85% of the original blue finish with some areas of plum-brown fading along the barrel, magazine tube, and receiver. The lever has about 60-70% of the original color case-hardening remaining, and the balance turned to a mottled plum-brown color. An area on the top rear of the right side of the receiver has been buffed to remove a stamped property marking, but it is still partially legible: “COLA. S. C.” and refers to Columbia, SC; possibly to either the municipal police, or the South Carolina State Penitentiary. The walnut forend and buttstock have minor handling marks and surface blemishes, but the original varnish is otherwise in fine shape, and the crescent butt is mottled brown and bright gray. This is a great looking, sate marked ’92 Winchester, and rates fine-near excellent condition overall. FFL or C&R
