This rare rifle has a factory work sheet is supplied by the Cody museum records office that list several interesting and rare features. Date in the warehouse is listed as 8-30-98 with a 1/2 magazine, caliber 30, round barrel (26"length) with plain trigger, shipped 8-31-98 on order no. 2564 with plain trigger and plain pistol grip checkered (in the "I" Pattern). Although not mentioned on which order, the rifle at one time had a Lyman No. 21 frame mounted rear sight which left a mark on the left receiver and was then removed*. Removal of the stock reveals the following on the lower left tang "6020 CE", under the buttplate the wood shows "T/94/6020" The rear barrel sight is an express model 34C for smokeless powder. The front sight has a small ivory bead and a set screw to allow windage adjustment. The forend also features fancy wood as does the butt and also has the "I" pattern checkering. The pistol grip has the standard grip cap with engraved screw. Sling eyes for the hook type Winchester swivels are mounted in the forend cap and 3 3/8" up from the butt toe in the stock. The bore grades bright, excellent. The lever shows traces of case color as does the hammer and buttplate. 85% blue remains with most loss on the frame from carry wear. The wood retains about 90% original varnish finish with some bruises and scratches that any hunting rifle would show. The weight is 6.8 pounds and the barrel has the first type smokeless marking in 2 lines "nickel steel barrel/especially for smokeless powder". Neither the barrel or receiver show any proof marks. Reference used is "The Winchester Model 94, The First 100 Years" by Robert C. Rennoberg. A rare and beautiful 94 with several special order features. * The tap holes were plugged with screws on the left side of the frame. The frame also has a travel line from the No 21 sight. The Winchester letter is included. Antique
