U.S. Model Springfield 1880 Hunting Knife
- Price: $675.00
- Maker: Spfld
- Model: 1880
- Description: Serial #2042. This iconic knife measures 13 1/2” overall with an 8 1/2” wide, single-edged blade having wide single fullers. The steel has a mottled gray patina with thin specks of dark freckling on both sides, and faint lateral cleaning marks. The brass guard has a dull ochre patina with some bright yellow metal on either side. The 17 groove oak handle has light surface wear and handling marks, as well as a handful of small impact marks on the pommel. The scabbard is in very good shape, and part of the original Watervliet stamping remains next to the brass rivets attaching the “RIA” stamped hook. The hook has an overall streaked, dull ochre patina with the throat piece slightly brighter, and the leather has mild crazing on the body, and further flaking and heavy crazing along the belt hook tab. This is a very nice example of a popular US military knife, and rates very good plus-near fine condition overall.
