U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle by Springfield Armory

  • Price: $2,195.00
  • Maker: Spfld
  • Model: Trapdoor
  • Caliber: .45-70

  • Description: Serial #470191, .45-70, 32 1/2” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a very nice rifle that has most of the original blue remaining on the metal with some fading and discoloration at the muzzle, and some silvering on a few of the high edges and projections. The “1884” marked breechblock has nearly all of the bright original color case-hardening still visible, while the lockplate and hammer have mild speckling along the otherwise blued surface. There are some small tool marks on the front of the trigger guard, and some further peen marks on the side of the Buffington rear sight. The walnut stock has a crisp “SWP/1889” cartouche on the left side of the wrist, as well as numerous small handling marks and minor blemishes along its length. Lots of bright, original blue remains on the “US” marked buttplate. The mechanism is tight and functions flawlessly, and the original ramrod is included. This is a fine example of a later production Trapdoor rifle, and would make a handsome addition to any collection. Antique
