  • Description: NSN, 16 Ga. (2 1/2”), 31” barrels with fair-good pitted bores. This is a handsome gun that has a dark, plum-brown patina on the barrels with visible pattern along their entire lengths. The maker name is inlaid in silver on the rib: “ROSCH STEYER U. COMP. IN SUHL”, and the lock-up is good, but does have lateral play in the barrels. The frame and back-action locks have beautiful floral scroll and game scene engraving that carries over onto the high spur hammers. The metal has a gray patina overall that ranges from pewter to fairly bright, and the horn underlever and grip have some minor surface damage and chipping along the edges (mostly on the lever). The checkered walnut forend has flattened points and a few small chips, while the buttstock, which has a swooping continental cheek-piece, and exhibits numerous small handling marks and blemishes. The stock pulls 14” to a steel buttplate, and has drops of 1 1/4” and 2 3/4” respectively. Steyer & Co. are listed as Suhl makers who began operations in the latter half of the 19th century, and this example rates about good condition overall. FFL or C&R
