German Aydt System Martini Schutzen Rifle

  • Maker: Aydt
  • Model: Martini
  • Caliber: 8.15mm

  • Description: Serial #901, 8.15 x 46R, 31 3/4” octagon barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a splendid, almost unmarked rifle that retains 85-90% of the original blue finish on the barrel with some fading to plum-brown, and silvering along the facet edges. The frame has no engraving, but 80-85% of the original color case-hardening remains with the balance faded to a mellow plum-brown patina along the edges. The rifle has the original target front sight fitted, as well as a correct, modern-made rear aperture sight with wide disk. A very small and unobtrusive import mark is present on the underside of the barrel just ahead of the forend tip. The forend is wedge-fastened with minor handling marks and blemishes scattered throughout. The buttstock is typically complex with thumb-rest, cheek-piece, and long, hooked butt. The wood here has a commensurate amount of minor handling marks and blemishes with a few tiny chips along the edges of some of the projections. According to the previous owner's notes (included with the rifle), the rifle was part of the collection of Constable John Anderson of the W.R. Yorkshire Constabulary who was twice a member of the Great Britain Police Shooting Team, and competed in the European Police Shooting Championships in 1960 and 1963. P.C. Anderson became a gun dealer after he retired and, according to his son in an accompanying information sheet, purchased this rifle at a Weller & Dufty auction some time in 1970. There is no original sales receipt, however the original, August 26, 1970 dated, Birmingham Proof House Certificate of Non-Provability issued to Weller & Dufty Ltd. is included. This is a splendid 8.15mm German target rifle, and rates fine-near excellent condition overall. FFL or C&R
