Fancy U.S. Eaglehead Infantry Officers' Sword
- Price: $795.00
- Maker: U.S.
- Model: Sword
- Description: This sword conforms to the Regulations of 1821 and measures 36 3/4” overall with a 31 3/4” straight, single-edged blade having nearly full length single fullers. The steel has an overall bright patina with spots of dark brown pitting and freckling present on both sides, heaviest towards the ricasso and at the tip. The blade still retains most of the brilliant fire blue and gold washed decorative panels on the forte with lightly etched floral sprays and martial motifs. The brass hilt has a stirrup-shaped crossguard with single forward swept quillon, ornate knucklebow, intact fluted bone grip, and eaglehead pommel with exposed capstan rivet. The brass has an overall dull yellow-ochre patina with traces of the original white metal finish (denoting use by the infantry). The leather scabbard has a heavily flaked body with old tape repair near the tip chape, and there are some further traces of white metal on the brass throat and other furniture. This is a nice, early 19th century American military sword in good-very good condition with a scarce original scabbard.
