Early Hames Dating to the Civil War Period or Earlier
- Price: $150.00
- Maker: Hames
- Description: The hames was the part of the harness used on a draft horse going around the horse's lower neck. It was worn over a padded collar and connected to the body harness and designed to help relieve the pull from the traces. This hames was hand crafted and all iron work is obviously forged by a blacksmith. Although difficult to precisely date, it appears to date to the first half of the 19th century. The unit shows substantial use(as to be expected from early horse equipment) and had some leather loss and separation, but is still a highly desirable piece of early American history. 24" long.
