Boer War ZAR Purchase Model 1896 Mauser Rifle by Loewe w/ Carved Stock

  • Maker: Mauser
  • Model: 1896
  • Caliber: 7mm

  • Description: Serial #A7631, 7mm Mauser, 29 barrel with a fine, bright bore that has mild freckling within the grooves. This is one of the first batch of 10,000 Ludwig Loewe marked, Mauser rifles purchased by the South African Republic (ZAR) in 1896. The metal retains traces of the original blue, mostly on protected areas, and has a mellow plum-brown patina on the balance. Some bright metal remains on the non-matching, but correct bolt, and some original fire blue remains on the bolt latch and magazine follower. The stock was lightly sanded at some point, and has minor handling marks and surface blemishes throughout. A previous owner has carved his name in Boer fashion on the right side of the stock in ornate letters: G.G. ABRAHAM. The rifle comes with a correct cleaning rod, numbered to a different gun. This is a very good example of a rare Boer rifle, and would make a wonderful addition to any collection. Antique
